Job Summary

The Coating Inspector is responsible for the supervision and quality control of all field joint coating and painting operations. This includes procedure and Inspection Test Plan ITP generation, provision of technical expertise, daily reporting, qualification of procedures, inspection and certification of joints, and ensuring compliance with project quality standards.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Lead the coating team and ensure all personnel are certified for coating/painting applications.
  • Ensure timely daily mobilization, achievement of production targets, and that all equipment is in good working condition.
  • Monitor daily activities to ensure full compliance with approved procedures and ITPs.
  • Work according to established daily schedules.

Core/Technical

  • Review painting and coating procedures and Inspection Test Plans ITPs for compliance with international codes and standards.
  • Verify that all equipment used for job execution is certified and suitable for the intended purpose.
  • Ensure all inspection instruments are calibrated and current.
  • Identify and report non-conformities, follow up on corrective actions and close-out of NCRs.
  • Generate daily production reports and ensure timely completion of digital tracking system reports e.g., Pipe Trak or equivalent.
  • Conduct procedure and ITP reviews for client approval.
  • Enforce approved procedures and ITPs on site.
  • Perform and witness all required tests as per procedures and ITPs.
  • Record, document, and report all inspection and test results.
  • Verify that all coating/painting personnel are qualified and certified.
  • Carry out any other duties related to coating activities as assigned.

Quality, Health, Safety & Environment QHSE

  • Champion adherence to Occupational Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Enforce all safety rules and ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment PPE.
  • Conduct or participate in toolbox meetings before commencing daily operations.
  • Promote Hazard Identification and Risk HIR reporting and lead by example.
  • Ensure team members attend required HSE meetings.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any Engineering discipline.
  • NACE Level 2, BGAS, or FROSIO 3 minimum requirement.
  • NACE Level 3 or SSPC 3 preferred.
  • Certificates in Construction Risk Assessment, Radiation Protection, Fire Safety, Basic Life Support, and First Aid.
  • Certificate in American Galvanizing Institute advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in corrosion control painting, coating, and insulation within EPC and client-side environments in the oil & gas industry.

Skills & Competencies

  • Mastery of painting, coating, and insulation of steel structures and concrete.
  • Mastery of galvanizing of steel structures and pipelines.
  • Mastery of pipe stringing, alignment sheet usage, and pipe lowering operations.
  • Strong industrial safety management skills.
  • Construction Risk Assessment skills.
  • Business support and budgeting skills.
  • Mastery of HSE standards and practices.
  • Knowledge of International Organization for Standardization ISO quality systems.
  • Knowledge of fabrication quality systems in the oil and gas sector.
