Requirements:

Qualifications
  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent Technical Certificate.
  • Tertiary Trade Qualification.
  • Tertiary qualification in Production Management, Manufacturing, Operations Management or a related field will be advantageous.
  • Qualification in Production and/or Stock Management will be advantageous.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a Workshop Management and/or Production Management role.
  • Alternatively, at least 5 years' experience as a Workshop Mechanic combined with significant production leadership experience.
  • Previous experience within the construction or manufacturing sector is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience managing workshop operations, production planning, staff and operational performance.
  • Proven experience in stock management and procurement.
  • Experience implementing production systems and process improvements.
Technical Skills
  • Strong production planning capability.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and technical drawings.
  • Excellent technical fault-finding skills.
  • Basic electrical knowledge.
  • Competent with hand tools and power tools.
  • Working knowledge of fabrication processes.
  • Practical welding knowledge (TIG, ARC, CO₂ and Spot Welding).
  • Ability to work safely at heights where required.
  • Strong computer literacy.

Responsibilities:

Workshop Management
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the workshop.
  • Lead, supervise, mentor and develop workshop personnel.
  • Allocate workloads and monitor productivity to ensure production targets are achieved.
  • Ensure workshop equipment, machinery and tools are maintained in good working order.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and operational excellence.
Production Management
  • Take full responsibility for production planning and scheduling.
  • Manage all facets of the production function to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Develop, implement and continuously improve production systems and workflows.
  • Monitor production performance against quality, cost and efficiency targets.
  • Ensure optimal utilisation of labour, equipment and materials.
Technical Leadership
  • Read, interpret and implement technical drawings and specifications.
  • Delegate technical instructions and provide guidance to workshop teams.
  • Perform technical fault finding and implement practical engineering solutions.
  • Assist with basic electrical applications when required.
  • Operate and supervise the safe use of hand tools and power tools.
  • Provide technical support relating to fabrication and welding activities.
Welding & Fabrication
Working knowledge and practical experience is essential in:
  • TIG Welding
  • ARC Welding
  • CO₂ Welding
  • Spot Welding
Procurement & Inventory Management
  • Manage workshop stock levels and inventory.
  • Oversee procurement of production materials and workshop consumables.
  • Ensure efficient stock control processes.
  • Minimise waste while maintaining production continuity.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure full compliance with Occupational Health & Safety legislation.
  • Conduct and maintain risk assessments.
  • Promote safe working practices throughout the workshop.
  • Ensure all staff comply with company safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency.
  • Implement lean manufacturing and process improvement initiatives where appropriate.
  • Monitor production KPIs and recommend operational improvements.
  • Assist in developing systems that improve quality, productivity and profitability.
