Job Summary
- We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Urologist to join our multidisciplinary clinical team in Abuja.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive urological care, including the diagnosis, medical management, and surgical treatment of disorders affecting the urinary tract and male reproductive system.
- The ideal candidate must possess extensive experience in minimally invasive urological surgery, demonstrate excellent clinical judgment, and be committed to delivering patient-centred, evidence-based healthcare while supporting the hospital's commitment to clinical excellence.
Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Diagnose, evaluate, and manage patients with urological disorders affecting the kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate, urethra, and male reproductive organs.
- Conduct outpatient consultations, inpatient reviews, and emergency urological assessments.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on current clinical guidelines and best practices.
- Perform elective and emergency urological procedures with a focus on patient safety and optimal outcomes.
- Manage both benign and malignant urological conditions.
- Provide pre-operative assessment, post-operative care, and long-term follow-up of patients.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians from other specialties to ensure coordinated patient care.
Surgical Responsibilities:
- Perform a wide range of open and minimally invasive urological procedures, including laparoscopic and endoscopic surgeries.
- Demonstrate competence in procedures such as:
- Transurethral Resection of the Prostate TURP
- Ureteroscopy URS
- Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy PCNL
- Cystoscopy diagnostic and therapeutic
- Laser stone surgery
- Laparoscopic nephrectomy and other laparoscopic urological procedures
- Ureteric stent insertion and removal
- Bladder tumour resections TURBT
- Other advanced minimally invasive urological interventions
- Maintain high standards of surgical safety and infection prevention.
- Participate in surgical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Patient Care:
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment options, preventive care, and recovery expectations.
- Ensure accurate documentation of clinical findings, operative notes, and treatment plans.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards of medical practice.
- Deliver compassionate, respectful, and patient-centred care.
Leadership and Administrative Responsibilities:
- Participate in departmental meetings, morbidity and mortality reviews, and multidisciplinary team discussions.
- Support the development and implementation of clinical protocols and quality improvement initiatives.
- Supervise and mentor junior doctors, resident doctors, interns, and medical officers where applicable.
- Participate in continuous professional development activities and hospital training programmes.
- Assist in service planning and the expansion of the hospital's urology services.
Call Duty:
- Participate in the hospital's consultant call rota.
- Provide emergency urological consultations and interventions during assigned call periods.
- Respond promptly to emergency surgical cases and inpatient referrals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery MBBS or equivalent.
- Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria FMCS or the West African College of Surgeons FWACS in Urology, or an equivalent internationally recognized qualification.
- Current practising licence issued by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria MDCN.
- Registration with relevant professional bodies.
- Additional fellowship or certification in minimally invasive or laparoscopic urological surgery will be an added advantage.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years' post-fellowship experience as a Consultant Urologist.
- Proven experience performing advanced minimally invasive urological surgeries.
- Experience in managing both elective and emergency urological cases.
- Previous experience working in a specialist or tertiary healthcare facility is preferred.
