Position Title: School Director, Primary School (Grade 1-8)
Organization: German Speaking Evangelical Church in Ethiopia - German Church School (GCS), Addis Ababa, Angola Street
Contract Type: Full-time (60-day probation period as per HR Manual)
Established in 1972, the German Church School is transitioning from a traditional integration model to a "Model of Inclusive Education" while striving for local financial sustainability. We are seeking a dynamic, young-at-heart, and energetic leader who can modernize our systems, inspire our multidisciplinary team, serving approximately 300 children from low-income families in a strategically changing environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic and Academic Leadership with a strong emphasis on Inclusion: Provide overall leadership for the academic, administrative, and operational performance of the school. Lead the implementation and development of inclusive education strategies for Grades 1-8.
- Execute the Strategic Plan: Lead the shift toward a full inclusion model for children with physical and multiple disabilities.
- System Modernization: Oversee the comprehensive review and implementation of updated management, financial, and HR systems.
- Organizational Resilience: Transform GCS into a "learning organization" that proactively adapts to the changing Ethiopian educational and economic landscape. Guide curriculum improvement, staff development, and the use of appropriate inclusive teaching approaches.
Management, Governance, Operational s Financial Stewardship
- Management: Provide effective management of human, financial, and material resources in line with school policies and Ethiopian regulations. Promote institutional growth, accountability, improvement and teamwork.
- Financial Diversification: Actively work to reduce dependence on international donors by building a local "Ethiopian foundation of funds" and innovative local fundraising and resource mobilization initiatives.
- Team Leadership: Chair the Operational Management Team (OMT), meeting bi-weekly to ensure cross-departmental coordination between Social Services, Health, Finance, and Academics.
- Governance: Serve as the main link between the school, the boards, parents, government offices, and development partners serve as Secretary to the PTA.
- Partnership Building: Maintain strong communication and reporting relationships with foreign partners, especially in Germany, and with other funding partners and donors.
Academic s Pastoral Excellence, Safeguarding
- Modern Pedagogy: Integrate national Ministry of Education standards with innovative, inclusive teaching methods that cater to diverse student needs.
- Youth Mentorship: Serve as a visible, energetic role model for students, ensuring the school remains a sanctuary for spiritual and academic growth.
- Networking: Liaise with the Ministry of Education and international partners to maintain GCS’s status as a premier educational institution.
- Safeguarding: Ensure implementation of child safeguarding, child protection, and ethical conduct standards across the school.
