About the Area Supervisor Role The Area Supervisor, Earthworks, plays a pivotal role in supporting the Earthworks Coordinator to manage and oversee earthworks activities at the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) and dams. This full-time position requires ensuring effective utilization of equipment and resources to meet construction deadlines while strictly adhering to safety, health, environmental, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities for Area Supervisor Jobs in Kalumbila Supervise daily earthworks operations, ensuring safe execution aligned with approved plans. Lead pre-start meetings to communicate daily tasks, production targets, hazards, and control measures to operators and contractors.
Allocate equipment and personnel based on guidance from the Earthworks Coordinator and Superintendent. Maintain a strong field presence to monitor equipment performance, productivity, work quality, and safety compliance.
Ensure all earthworks conform to approved drawings, specifications, SOPs, method statements, risk assessments, and HSE protocols. Track equipment availability, usage, breakdowns, and delays, reporting any shortfalls promptly.
Coordinate contractors’ activities to meet First Quantum Minerals' safety, quality, environmental, and production standards. Collaborate with Survey and QA/QC teams to verify inspections, testing, compaction, and hold points are completed accurately.
Monitor daily production targets and promptly address or escalate safety, quality, equipment, or scheduling issues. Prepare detailed shift reports and handovers covering production progress, equipment status, safety, quality, delays, and pending tasks.
Essential Competencies and Attributes Demonstrated ability to supervise earthworks and enforce safe work practices effectively. Strong leadership skills with clear communication of daily instructions to teams and contractors.
Proactive field inspections to identify unsafe conditions, operational constraints, and equipment faults. Solid understanding of earthworks, mobile equipment operations, construction methods, and quality assurance.
Capacity to manage equipment performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions or escalate as needed. Excellent organizational skills to allocate resources and personnel efficiently according to daily priorities.
Effective verbal and written communication skills for reporting, handovers, and issuing work instructions. Ability to thrive in a multicultural environment and communicate confidently in English.
Strong commitment to safety, health, environmental, and community (SHEC) standards. Qualifications and Experience Required Minimum of 3 years’ experience in construction, mining, earthworks, or tailings dam construction.
At least 2 years in a supervisory or team leadership position. Practical experience operating earthmoving and construction equipment.
Grade 12 Certificate certified by ZAQA. Diploma in Civil Construction, Earthworks, Mining, or related discipline.
Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent is advantageous. Valid Class C driver’s license.
